Serviceman's Heart

A Soldier stands by
And lets out a sigh
As he ponders his orders received

He watches the lines
His Commander designs
But he questions if he's been deceived

He's given his oath
But loyal to both?
His heart being torn in two

He must follow his orders
And watch foreign borders
And he still wonders what he should do

As his oath is his word
Is his honor deferred?
His heart continues in turmoil

What should he follow
His chest aching hollow
Has duty turned into just toil?

A Seaman works on
His resolve almost gone
The values he swore to uphold

His mind is now clouded
His purpose now shrouded
As he must always do as he's told

Why is he here?
Is there real fear?
The questions are filling his head

Has justice been stifled?
Has honor been trifled?
Should duty be something to dread?

Has he given up choice?
Is he allowed no voice?
Where do his loyalties lay?

His shoulders now droop
In a prisoner's stoop
Yet with his life he was willing to pay

An Airman looks back
Her commitment an act
She's troubled by what she feels

Who do we serve...
On this zig-zagging curve?
She asks of her God as she kneels

Her skills she did hone
So she could pilot a drone
To deliver the death requested

Who ordered me, this?
She prays for a miss
Her faith in her God to be tested

Many questions are thought
Her answers are naught
Though she signed when she heard the call

The rights that she quitted
She has finally admitted
Has caused her faith to fall

The three to a one
Thought they'd have fun
Fighting for their land

But with honor depleted
And Americans cheated
It gets harder to take a stand

Yet, in the Oval Room
Sits the man of Doom
A tempest heading his way

He keeps his head down
Hiding his frown
While directing his own little play

And we know he can see
The confusion of three
That were willing to give up their lives

For they are the force
That need a true course
If they are to use their knives

They pledged to no man
They care not who ran
The Constitution is their Light

The President may command
But it's the People who demand
That the Document Governs our might.
